Job Description
The person holding this position is responsible for assisting in maintaining cleanliness throughout the plant. Safe Operation of ash silo area equipment, and other equipment such as Street Sweeper, mower, shovels, utility air lances and water hoses and Water Truck, used in these tasks will also be required. Winter operations may also require snow and or ice removal. Other cleaning and asset preservation tasks.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: - Operate, and maintain cleanliness of plant, including the ash silo and MSHA designated areas.
- Assists in maintaining of plant systems by way of consistent housekeeping and monitoring for issues.
- Demonstrates safe working habits, identifies hazards and takes corrective actions, as approved by Shift Supervisor and/or Operations Manager.
- Performs routine inspections and troubleshooting, recommends and assists in corrective actions, and reports information to the Shift Supervisor and/or Operations Manager.
- Safely operates various pieces of equipment such as a mower, street sweeper, water truck, and other plant vehicles.
- Assists the Assistant Plant Operator as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: The Utility Operator reports to the Operations Manager.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical requirements include: working on feet for 12 hour periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.
Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Ability/ medically qualified to wear a respirator during cleaning process when required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to read, write and communicate in the English language and perform mathematical computations; high school diploma (or equivalent) preferred.
Two years' experience with the operation of power plant equipment, or equivalent is preferred.
Knowledge of general mechanical equipment, including knowledge of general maintenance functions and operating procedures.
Ability, when qualified, to start up, operate and shut down material handling and water systems in the local control modes to maintain plant safety, efficiency and production.
Ability to perform routine inspections, trouble shooting and corrective actions, and reports timely information to the Shift Supervisor.
Familiarity with job site practices and procedures.
Demonstrated skills in the use of hand tools.
Knowledge and understanding of:
- Mobile equipment
- Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in the work
- Basic maintenance and repair skills
Ability to handle a variety of power tools in a safe manner.
Ability, under proper supervision, to locate, correct and adjust defects in mobile equipment and mechanical machinery.
Basic knowledge of mechanical drawings and schematics.
Ability to communicate, both written and oral, clearly, logically and accurately.
Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license required.
