Job Title: Surgical Assistant - Contract

Location: NYC, NY 10003

Schedule: 11:00 AM - 7:15 PM, 5 days per week

Weekend and Holiday availability required

Job Summary:

The Surgical Assistant provides surgical assistance to residents and attending physicians in the oral surgery clinic and dental ambulatory OR/procedure room. The role requires close collaboration with clinicians to ensure optimal patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Escort patients to the surgical chair, screen patients awaiting surgery, and review medical records to confirm treatment and ensure chart completeness.
• Provide "four-handed" assistance to clinicians during procedures.
• Clean and disinfect countertops, mayo stands, and equipment before each procedure.
• Organize sterile instruments, surgical trays, and equipment for each procedure.
• Take radiographs as requested, before, during, and after the procedure.
• Restock cabinets and drawers, order, and stock medical/surgical supplies.
• Provide chair-side assistance with monitoring patient vitals, suctioning, and passing instruments.
• Dispose of medical waste and remove instruments at the end of the procedure.
• Respond effectively to emergencies.

Skills:

• Dental Assistant Certification and Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Minimum 3 years of experience (5 years preferred).
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Education:  Associate’s Degree required.

Additional Requirements:

• Certification as Surgical Tech.
• Experience in a scrub role, especially in Vascular, Urology, and General Surgery.
• Ability to float to other areas as needed.

Languages:  Must be proficient in English (Speak, Read, Write).
