Summary
The Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventative Medicine (VMPM) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Iowa State University, located in Ames, Iowa, is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, Research Scientist III position.
This position is specifically designed to provide research support for a recently awarded USDA Sustainable Agricultural Systems grant related to the sustainability of dairy goat production in the United States. Responsibilities of this position include leading research activities in the funded grant related to supporting rural community development and strengthening the workforce related to dairy goat production systems. Additional responsibilities include overseeing completion of animal health research related to respiratory disease, failure of passive transfer, mastitis, and antimicrobial stewardship in dairy goat production systems. The successful candidate will have a unique focus complementary to the departments mission in current research interests as stated above. Faculty and staff are expected to model safe and fiscally responsible behavior for students.

The VMPM department has a three-tiered mission of teaching, research and service, and is addressed by a highly-productive faculty, energetic graduate students, and the additional expertise of adjunct faculty. Our research is applied to improvement of animal health, public health and food safety. Our faculty have instructional responsibilities for bacteriology, immunology, virology, microbiology, epidemiology and public health. VMPMs mission is to create an environment that promotes excellence in teaching, research and service through innovation and discovery. The department imparts knowledge and skills in infectious diseases, encourages lifelong learning, conducts basic and applied research focused on animal and human health, participates in professional and community service, and partners with stakeholders to address societal needs.
