About the Role

As a member of BHP’s global Reward team, the Principal Reward will business partner, lead and provide support for global, regional and local Reward and Benefit initiatives to the BHP businesses in North America. Located in Tucson, Arizona, the role is primarily responsible for local engagement with key stakeholders, in the provision of specialist and technical reward and benefit advice, support for governance of reward and benefits, and the deployment of all relevant regional and global strategic reward and benefit initiatives, with consideration of the local regional context.

This role requires a person who is highly motivated, able to work autonomously, is adaptable, creative and has strong influencing skills to ensure the implementation of improvement initiatives at scale. 

Benefits is a key focus of this role, including the governance and evaluation of BHP’s regional benefit programs which encompass pensions, health benefits, life insurances and other employee benefits, recognition and wellness programs. The management of vendor relationships is a priority and includes all local benefit plan service providers, governing contract service levels and performance, pricing negotiations and vendor platform interfaces to ensure high quality service delivery and prompt resolution of queries and issues.

You will provide technical and specialist reward and benefit advice and coaching on: 
•    Application of BHP’s remuneration philosophy and frameworks.
•    Understanding the impacts of reward and benefit decisions (including legacy arrangements) with consideration for inclusion and diversity initiatives
•    Other reward-related activities unique to the North America region, including benefit plan design/structure, administration, and governance of plan documents,
•    Strategic application of reward and benefits in consultation with other HR sub functions.

About You

As the successful candidate you will possess the following: 

•    Degree or equivalent education or experience required
•    Experience with the management and understanding of relevant reward and benefit program philosophies, policies, processes and governance
•    Extensive technical experience in the management of benefit programs in a global company 
•    Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, working with variety of different people across our global organization (directly or indirectly) 
•    Excellent understanding of HR practices and compensation and benefits cycle management.
•    Strong vendor management skills (strategy, negotiations, performance assessment, service delivery)
•    Project management skills are an advantage
•    Excellent communication skills, high attention to detail, and strong analytical skills
•    Proficiency in use of the Microsoft Office suite, in particular Microsoft Excel
