APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
To Apply For The Police Recruit Position, Applicants Must Complete An Employment Application Titled “Police Recruit Employment Application” Located At In Its Entirety And Submit It In Person To 501 Palm Ave, Human Resources Department, Hialeah, FL 33010 Or Via Email To HRresumes@hialeahfl.gov. Application Packets Must Include a Copy Of The Following Documents Attached
- Copy of Florida Driver’s License
- Copy of Birth Certificate, Naturalization Certificate or U.S. Passport
- Proof of Education (High School Diploma, GED, and/or College Degree)
- Copy of Armed Service Discharge Papers (DD214, if applicable)
- Copy of Social Security Card
Minimum Qualifications - Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Must be at least 19 years of age (no maximum).
- Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent from an accredited state or private school recognized by the State of Florida Board of Education, or any other State meeting Florida Police Standards requirements.
- Must have a valid driver license from any state provided that a valid Florida driver license is presented to the Professional Compliance Bureau during the background process.
- Must pass State guidelines as determined by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for entrance into the police academy. The State requires all applicants to pass a Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) for entrance into a State of Florida Certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
- Complete a course of basic recruit training approved by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC), unless exempt, and achieve an acceptable score on the officer certification exam in accordance with Florida Statutes. Fla. Stat. 943.13(9) and (10).
- Comply with Section 943.135 Florida Statutes, and CJSTC continuing training and education requirements. Fla. Stat. 943.13(11).
- Have not been convicted of any felony or of any misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement.
- Have never received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.
- Have good moral character.
- Must be able to read and write the English language.
- Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check.
- Must complete any additional training required by the Hialeah Police Department.
- By the time of police orientation applicants must successfully acquire a passing CJBAT and passing of P.A.T. (P.A.T will be scheduled by the City of Hialeah).

Physical Assessment Test (pat) Breakdown This test is scheduled by the Hialeah Police Department, you must successfully pass in order to continue in the hiring process. - 1 Mile Run

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK General work as a City sponsored trainee enrolled in a State of Florida Certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
Essential Examples Of Duties - Timely attends and participates in all lectures, demonstrations, applications, formations, inspections, examinations, and any other gatherings conducted as a part of basic law enforcement courses and remedial training.
- Studies, comprehends, retains, and successfully demonstrates attained knowledge and skills garnered from all lectures, texts, material, data, and any other sources of information on subjects presented by the academy.
- Safely fires a qualifying score with small arms.
- Maintains a healthy physical condition and skills necessary to agilely accomplish arduous tasks, goals, assignments, etc.
- Adapts and adheres to the conduct and attitudes required by training advisors, instructors, and administrators of the academy.
- Is appropriately attired at all times.
- Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities - Ability to study, comprehend, retain, and successfully demonstrate knowledge of various fields of law enforcement in the curricula of regularly scheduled basic law enforcement courses.
- Ability to achieve and maintain physical condition and skills to successfully complete all physical requirements included within those courses or training.

SPECIAL NOTE: Incumbents in this position should not remain in this classification for more than 12 months and are required to complete the training curriculum and pass the State certification examination in order to be upgraded to the rank of Police Officer-Certified.
The City will hire individuals, as needed, as Police Recruits and sponsor them through a police academy. A Police Recruit shall be paid a salary of $1,923 biweekly until certified by the State of Florida as a law enforcement officer. The $1,923 biweekly salary shall constitute Step 1 of Range 61 of the Police Officer salary schedule contained in Article 30 (Pay Plan) of the CBA. Once a Police Recruit is certified by the State of Florida as a law enforcement officer, the salary shall be in accordance with Range 61, Step 2 of a Police Officer salary schedule contained in Article 30 (Pay Plan) of the CBA.
The City shall require reimbursement of hiring and training expenses from an individual hired as a Police Recruit who is sponsored by the City to obtain training with a police academy paid for by the City and who leaves City employment within 36 months (i.e. 3 years) from the date of being certified by the State of Florida as a law enforcement officer. Hiring and training expenses shall include, but is not limited to, background investigation, pre-employment testing, tuition and training, uniform and equipment. A Police Recruit shall execute an Agreement for Reimbursement of Hiring & Training Expenses and an Agreement for Temporary Employment as a Police Recruit.
