We are seeking a dynamic and self-driven paralegal to join our Community Revitalization Project. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for public interest law and a strong initiative to make a meaningful impact in the lives of low-income individuals and communities.
Responsibilities:
As a paralegal, you will work under the guidance of a licensed attorney, assisting in civil legal matters, including affordable housing, environmental justice, and community development. Your duties will include:
Client Support: Assist clients within the program's priorities with attorney supervision, ensuring their legal needs are met.
Paraprofessional Legal Services: Provide legal assistance to eligible clients and community groups in civil matters, including community development, advocacy, and other relevant areas.
Outreach & Education: Participate in outreach and legal education efforts to raise awareness and build strong relationships with community groups.
Case Management: Help attorneys represent clients, work with community groups, and investigate and develop cases. You'll also handle intake calls, screen clients, and create and manage case files.
Legal Drafting & Filing: Draft legal documents like pleadings, orders, and letters; file documents through e-filing; set hearing dates; and interact with courts, opposing parties, and clients.
Collaboration: Regularly meet with community groups, organizers, and team members to foster effective communication and collaboration.
Supervision & Development: Seek guidance from supervising attorneys, participate in training, and report on your caseload and activities.
Travel & Outreach: Travel when necessary for administrative purposes or community outreach.
Qualifications:
Associate's degree and paralegal certification preferred.
Minimum of 2 years prior paralegal experience is a plus.
Previous experience in community organizing or working with low-income populations is preferred.
Fluency in Spanish (verbal and written) is highly preferred.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are essential.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and basic legal research.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Occasional travel may be required.
Salary:
Starting at $40,150 per year, with potential for higher salary based on experience. The position is non-exempt, subject to state and federal wage and hour laws.
