Outpatient Clinic / Circulating Surgery RN Job Summary:
Provides indirect & direct patient care for the department. Schedules all operative and invasive procedures. Records statistics as requested. Orders equipment for specific procedures. Maintains communication lines for department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
- Interacts professionally with physicians, patients/family and others.
- Responds to inappropriate behavior in a therapeutic manner.
- Communicates Clinical Laboratory/Imaging Services reports to the surgeon during the procedure.
- Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self motivated; manages activity and time; does not waste time.
- Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and the general patient population.
- Answers telephone calls in a professional manner; refers patient problems to outpatient clinic physician; schedules patient appointments.
- Schedules procedures as called in to the facility by physicians or physician’s offices, per policy and procedure.
- Batches patient charges and sends to data processing daily.
- Notifies Engineering Department of any equipment not functioning properly; completes necessary paperwork.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationship with co-workers for the patient’s benefit.
- Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self-motivated. Organization and management of secretary’s activities reflect due consideration for the needs of the facility and staff.
- Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of facts and good judgment, within the secretary’s scope of practice.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Keeps informed of patient’s condition and whereabouts, when patient is out of room.
- Gives thorough report of patient’s intraoperative condition to PACU nurse.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationships with co workers for the patient’s benefit.
- Counts narcotics at beginning and end of all shifts with another RN, per hospital policy.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of instrument processing, sterilization and biological monitoring.
- Actively participates in instrument processing, as schedule allows.
- Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of dysrhythmias, followed by appropriate treatment.
- Is able to perform all duties of circulating and scrub nurses.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.
Professional Requirements:
- Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
- Completes annual education requirements.
- Maintains regulatory requirements.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
- Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
- Completes inservices and returns in a timely fashion.
- Attends annual review and department inservices, as scheduled.
- Attends at least annual competency, reads and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
Regulatory Requirements:
• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program
• Understanding of medical terminology.
• Currently registered as a RN in Nebraska
• Current ACLS & BLS
Language Skills:
• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Additional languages preferred
Skills:
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Ability to type minimum of 40 words per minute (wpm).
• Knowledgeable in skills of patient/guest relations.

Fulltime Surgery RN to assist with outpatient specialty clinics and surgery. This position is Monday thru Friday daytime hours, no call. Hours will vary depending on surgery and clinic schedule.
