Job Description

5th-8th Grade Band Director

This part-time position is for the 2025-2026 School Year.

 

Job Summary

We are seeking to fill a part-time, one-day a week position. Band classes are currently taught to 5th - 8th grade students during the day, but we can be flexible for the right candidate!

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The duties of this job include: 

 
  • Teach performance band to fifth through eighth grade students, both in large band and small group lessons as needed.
  • Integrate standards of music education into the program.
  • Provide instruction in a wide range of music. Familiarity with Jewish music is a plus, but not required. 
  • Prepare students to participate in two major concerts per band group each year.
  • Recruit fifth grade band students, audition and recommend instruments
  • Coordinate instrument rentals as needed
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction. 
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. 
  • Communicate with parents to discuss students’ progress as needed.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service and professional growth activities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to best practice in all dimensions of effective teaching.

Qualification Requirements

 
  • Bachelor’s degree of related subject from accredited university 
  • Illinois teaching certificate or equivalent teaching experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate the proper technique for playing various instruments. 
  • Experience is preferred but not necessary for hiring.
