Job Description

Broadband Access Services Inc. is seeking experienced Fiber Splicing Technician. Fiber Splicing Technician will be responsible for splicing fiber, as well as for the installation and operation of Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant Fiber Optic Networks. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Splice cable systems using hand tools or mechanical equipment.

• Inspect, activate and test lines and cables, recording and analyzing test results, to assess transmission characteristics and locate faults and malfunctions both forward and return frequencies.

• Access specific areas using bucket trucks, or by climbing poles and ladders or entering tunnels, trenches, manholes, attics, basements, or crawl spaces.

• Set up service for customers, installing, connecting, testing, and adjusting equipment

• Place insulation over conductors, and seal splices with moisture-proof covering.

• Knowledge of safe operation of a bucket van.

• Knowledge of basic math & computer skills

• Inspect and maintain vehicle, supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, and brakes to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition.

• Clean and maintain tools and test equipment.

• Maintain records such as vehicle logs, in accordance with regulations.

· Assist in the training of inexperienced employees to become fiber splicer

· Read maps, and follow written and verbal geographic directions

· Obey traffic laws, and follow established traffic and transportation procedures

· Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment

REQUIREMENTS

• 3-5+ years experience of Fiber Splicing preferred
• Knowledge of Cat 5, 5E, and 6 cabling preferred
• Hands on Splicing fiber optics
• Strong knowledge of OTDR Testers
• Must be willing to work nights and weekends as required
• Willing to travel when necessary
• Must have valid driver’s license with good driving record
• Must pass a DOT physical and Drug Screening
• Must be able to lift 80lbs
• Must be able to pass background check and drug screen
• Must be able to work in inclement weather
• Must be able to identify different colors
