Buffalo Seminary is an independent day and boarding school for college-bound girls. Founded in 1851, and among the oldest girls’ schools in the United States, SEM has designed a culture of scholarship, leadership, creativity, and service for over 170 years. At Buffalo Seminary, we celebrate our diverse identities and perspectives. We embrace diversity as necessary for our collective growth and achievement. To fulfill this purpose, we welcome and seek students, families, and employees who contribute to the richness of our diverse community. At SEM we work every day to ensure that all who come within our walls have what they need to realize their potential and to participate fully in school life. The ideal candidate should demonstrate enthusiasm for all-girl education and will embrace diversity and support our inclusive community.
Position Overview
Fellows typically will have responsibility for teaching one course with support from a faculty mentor and/or work in the residences. All Fellows help in our extra-curricular program in either athletics, theatre, or community service and coach or lead activities in addition to performing support tasks throughout the community. Fellows have the opportunity to live in campus housing and are assigned a mentor and provided support through our growth program. Fellows begin their commitment to SEM in August with an orientation program, which focuses on the school’s mission, philosophy of education, methods of classroom teaching, and the logistics of the school day and year. Except for winter and spring vacations, the Fellowship is a full-time commitment until early June. Fellows receive a stipend of $25,000 on a twelve-month basis, including health insurance, beginning in September.
The Student Belonging Fellow will work to ensure all students feel a sense of belonging at SEM and will assist with Student Life programming designed to engage, and include all members of its student population, which is a diverse mixture of day/boarding and international/domestic students in grades 9-12.
