Job Summary:

UW Madison, Department of Educational Psychology is seeking candidates to teach graduate level courses in school psychology and learning sciences. Courses will provide instruction on cognitive and emotional foundations of behavior and will focus on neuroscience foundational concepts relevant to clinical mental health practice. Courses are part of the School Psychology graduate program in the Department of Educational Psychology in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Courses are graduate-level that cover issues related to training school psychology students in the PhD program and students from other School of Education graduate programs.

Under the direction of the Department Chair and the School Psychology Program Area Chairs:
1. Teach assigned course(s) as specified in the lecturer agreement.
2. Evaluate and select instructional materials, prepare course materials
3. Provide students an approved syllabus using the UW-Madison syllabus template that includes all the necessary components of a well-developed syllabus
4. Use the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) to post syllabus, assignments, other materials, and communicate with students
5. Deliver the course content using different strategies to engage students in high quality instruction
6. Observe and provide timely feedback to students their progress in meeting course outcomes/learning objectives
7. Be available for student consultation through office hours and/or schedule appointments.
8. Maintain records of attendance, assessment and grades, submit final grades.
9. Encourage students to submit course evaluations, review course evaluations when available and use feedback to make course improvements.

Responsibilities:

Facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction and assists with instructional development and design for a single course or series of courses within an academic discipline to support the delivery of quality instruction. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.
  • 30% Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
  • 60% Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
  • 10% Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations

Education:

Required
PhD in educational psychology, school psychology, clinical psychology, neuroscience or a related field

Qualifications:

1. Current knowledge and background in the relevant discipline including focus on neuroscience foundational concepts and cognitive and emotional foundations of behavior.
2. Prior teaching experience in a graduate program
3. Ability to respond to the needs of learners from a variety of educational backgrounds and learning styles
4. Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team
5. Excellent written communication skills
6. Good organizational skills and timeliness in responding to student inquiries

Preferred
1. Experience in using Canvas learning management system

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 25% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 4 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding

Negotiable
ACADEMIC (9 months)

Additional Information:

Courses may be taught in the fall and spring semesters; however, course development and planning is ongoing. This position may be extended or made renewable depending on department need, performance and available funding.
