Summary

First Presbyterian Playschool is currently accepting applications for Playschool Teachers in both the 2 year old and PreK classrooms.
 
Bachelor's degree and experience in an early childhood education classroom preferred.
 
Must meet educational standards for the State of Tennessee 3 Star Assessment standards.
 
This is a 5 day a week, part-time, part-year position with the school year running from Mid-August to Late May. The position offers a competitive salary commensurate with level of education and experience.
 
This would be great for a retired teacher or a parent with a 2-4 year old because they could come to school!

First Presbyterian Playschool Teacher Job Description
Responsibilities
The Playschool Teacher is responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate environment for the students. The Playschool Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing a program that meet Playschool curriculum goals in compliance with State of Tennessee Licensing and 3 Star Assessment standards. The Playschool Teacher will be respectful of children, parents, coworkers, church staff and church members. The Playschool Teacher will also ensure that equipment and classrooms are clean, safe and well maintained. Failure to provide adequate services and supervision may place children at risk.

Duties

1. Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.
2. Plan and implement lesson plans for activities designed to promote physical, mental, social and spiritual development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, stories, math, language development, PEP, pre-reading, etc.
3. Attend to children's basic needs by having nutritious snacks available, helping with clothing and helping with toileting as needed. In doing so model and teach proper eating habits and personal hygiene.
4. Assimilate arriving children into the classroom by greeting them and guiding them to appropriate activities. Acknowledge parents and be receptive to information parents need to share.
5. Enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order. Be familiar with emergency procedures
6. Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development and physical health and report any concerns to the Playschool Director. Participate in meetings with parents to discuss their child's progress and needs as assigned by the Playschool Director.
7. Enforce all administration policies and rules regarding students and families.
8. Adapt teaching methods and lesson plans based on students' needs and abilities
9. Sort and distribute student work that was created with your plans and guidance. Assist other teachers in this task as needed or directed by Playschool Director.
10. Arrange and maintain indoor and outdoor space to facilitate a safe and enriching environment that is in compliance with all Playschool and State of Tennessee guidelines.
11. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws and administrative policies.
12. Collaborate with other teachers and the Playschool Director in the evaluation, development and revision of Playschool programs.
13. Maintain a good working relationship with other teachers and church staff
14. Attend professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence and meet State of Tennessee 3 Star guidelines.
15. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required
16. Select, store, order, and inventory classroom equipment, materials and supplies as needed or directed.
17. Perform administrative duties such as dismissal and carpool to maintain compliance with State of Tennessee licensing standards and 3 Star Assessment guidelines
18. Find substitute(s) during absences
19. Plan and implement 2 Summer Fun Days. Be available to staff Summer Fun Days as assigned by the Playschool Director
20. Perform other related duties as assigned and required by Playschool Director.

Benefits

Teachers are paid on the last Friday of each month, August-May. Starting salary is $775. This covers Monday-Friday, 9:00-12:00.
Depending on the number of students that are staying for lunch and rest, 3-4 teachers stay each day for "sack lunch". The pay for each sack lunch day is $40. This year we averaged 10-12 sack lunch days each pay period for an additional $400+ added to your check. 
We also offer an optional week at the end of the school year for "Summer Fun" which pays $80 per day ($400 for the week).

Playschool covers 5 days of PTO for each teacher. After the 5 days, the teacher is responsible for paying the director $25 which will be paid to the substitute. Beginning this year, unused PTO days can be rolled over for a total of 10 at the beginning of any year.
