Are you looking for a a great way to helps others and earn a little cash? Join our Dining Assistant team and assist Veterans with eating and drinking during meal times. Dining Assistants are important and valuable members to the South Dakota Veterans Home by "taking care of America's heroes" by supplementing CNAs and nursing staff. Dining Assistants are not substitutes for CNAs or nursing staff. The Dining Assistant cannot feed a resident who has a complicated feeding problem or clinical conditions that require nursing training.
The Dining Assistant Program provides the necessary training which consists of 8 hours of online curriculum and 2 hours of clinical precepted by a Registered Nurse. The program's goal is to provide instruction to Dining Assistants who will provide residents with help in eating and drinking to reduce unplanned weight loss and dehydration. Flexible working hours available.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess or be able to obtain serve-safe certification and successfully complete dining assist certification.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age or older.
Knowledge of:
- legal and ethical implications in the dining process;
- resident rights;
- infection prevention practices;
- recognize changes in residents that are inconsistent with their normal behavior;
- safety and emergency procedures;
- feeding techniques.
Skill to:
- assist residents with eating and drinking during mealtimes;
- document meal intake in electronic medical record.
Ability to:
- provide assistance in a safe and dignified manner to residents in the healthcare facility;
- interact with residents and members of the interdisciplinary team;
- provide a pleasant dining experience.
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
