Reports to: Senior Director of Communications

Direct reports: N/A

Salary: $50,000 to $60,000

Location: Indianapolis, IN. Remote work is permissible. 

Status: Full-time, Exempt

ABOUT INDIANA AFTERSCHOOL NETWORK

The Indiana Afterschool Network (IAN) wants every young person in Indiana to have the best chance at making a great life for themselves and a positive impact in their communities. We believe out-of-school time (OST) programming can play a major role in that. For more than two decades, IAN has been committed to out-of-school time organizations through supports and resources that promote continuous quality improvement of programs, increase families’ access to OST programming, and advocacy that help to shape the environments in which OST providers serve.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Director of Communications will support IAN’s mission by managing day-to-day communications tasks, executing on high-level communications strategies, creating and publishing content, maintaining IAN’s digital presence, and supporting internal departments with their communications needs. Through their work, they will help out-of-school time programs across the state better serve young people, directly impacting the well-being and development of Indiana’s youth. The Associate Director of Communications will play a key role in enhancing IAN’s visibility and ensuring that all communication efforts align with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

The Associate Director of Communications must live in Indiana.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Creation and Management:

  • Develop, create, and publish content for social media, email marketing, WordPress, and other digital platforms.
  • Design creative collateral for both digital and print usage, such as flyers, brochures, and other marketing materials.
  • Update and maintain content on the IAN website.
  • Enhance and maintain IAN’s digital presence, including website content, social media planning, and email marketing.
  • Monitor and analyze communication metrics to optimize content and strategies.

Communications Strategy and Support:

  • Assist with the development and execution of communication strategies and campaigns.
  • Manage the communications calendar, ensuring timely updates and sequencing for impact.
  • Coordinate the production of the annual report and other key publications.
  • Support communication with vendor relationships related to communications and marketing efforts.

Administrative and Event Support:

  • Lead the procurement of name badges, business cards, and other materials to support internal departments.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating public relations and media efforts for IAN events.
  • Serve as a secondary media contact as needed.

Professional Development and Other Responsibilities:

  • Stay updated on best practices, industry trends, and market changes.
  • Promote a diverse, equitable, and inclusive afterschool environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, public relations, digital media, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, digital media, or a related field.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and digital marketing tools.
  • Experience with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress).
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and other design tools.
  • Strong organizational and with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion in all communications efforts.
  • Experience with analytics and data-driven decision-making.
  • Graphic design experience is preferred.
  • Alignment with organizational values, including integrity, collaboration, and respect, and a commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive work environment.
  • Must complete a successful background check through the State of Indiana.
