Job Description

We seek a passionate and caring individual, preferably with school experience, to join our school for the 25_26 school year. The Assistant School Nurse supports the school Registered Nurse (RN) and provides care to students within the scope of your specific practice and certification. The position involves daily collaboration with the faculty members, students and families. The position is part-time (25 hours per week) and will start in August 2025 through June 2026.

Essential Functions:

  • Attend to students' health care needs during assigned hours, including basic first aid, temperature checks, taking vital signs, and other patient care duties that fall within the scope of the individual’s respective practice within New York State.
  • Document care in the school's online health system.
  • Under the direct supervision of the school RN, communicate directly with parents and teachers to convey instructions and uphold health policies and safety practices.
  • Ensure student health records are up to date and correct; track immunizations, physicals, allergy action plans and other medical alerts under the direct supervision of the school RN.
  • Ensure first aid kits and emergency bags are appropriately stocked.
  • Update medical alert and student allergy documents.
  • Support recording and follow-up of student attendance
  • Attend full faculty and staff bi-weekly meetings.
  • Willing to commit to anti-bias and anti-racism work and to promoting inclusion, belonging and equity through their work in the classroom and school community.
  • Ensure a commitment to the school’s DEI mission and goals by participating in continuous professional development for learning differences, anti-racism and anti-bias of all kinds.
  • Be an active member of the Gaynor community
  • Other duties and responsibilities as deemed appropriate

Qualifications & Skills

  • CNA or LPN certification preferred; EMT certification is encouraged but not required
  • Has strong organizational and communication skills with a kind and supportive demeanor.
  • Comfortable and adept in speaking with children, parents, and teachers.
  • Experienced in patient care and able to perform care duties under the direct supervision of the school.
  • Able to interact with sick students and abide by the school’s safety protocols.
  • Willing to don PPE and remain with a sick student awaiting pick-up.
  • Willing to perform basic cleaning to maintain a sanitary and organized nurse station.
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace (Drive, Docs & Sheets) and Microsoft Office.
  • Organized with the ability to multitask.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are preferable.
  • Familiar with universal precautions.
  • Collaborative, inquisitive and self-motivated.
