Assistant Professor of Arabic Studies - 000946
The University of Richmond's Department of Languages, Literatures, & Cultures invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Arabic Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2025. We seek a teacher-scholar with research and teaching interests in modern Arabic literatures and Arab world cultures. The department welcomes expertise in at least two of the following areas: Arabic Literature, Cinema, and Culture; Mediterranean and Transcultural Studies; Ethnic and/or Minority studies; Colonialism and Post-Colonialism; Environmental Humanities and Ecocriticism; Arabic Language and Translation Studies; Gender and Sexuality Studies. Native or near-native fluency in Arabic and English and a strong commitment to teaching at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum are required. We are particularly interested in applicants willing to engage in collaboration with the University's programs in Global Studies, Anthropology, Environmental Humanities, History, WGSS (Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies), Film Studies, and/or PPEL (Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law). Experience in language teaching and instructional technologies is strongly preferred, as the successful candidate will typically teach language as well as content courses. The regular teaching load will be five courses per academic year.
